High Respect for Glavine

There’s just too much to respect about Tom Glavine to be angry (as a Mets fan) at him for returning to the Braves. Sure he probably had his worst game in memory during his last start for the Mets. The memory of that game will not fade easily either given the situation the Mets were in. However, the team put itself in that position and that should not reflect solely on how fans view him.

Tom Glavine is a standup guy and as soon as the previous Braves GM stepped-down, I was sure that Tommy was going home to Atlanta. Glavine had a bit of a run-in with the Ex-GM that sent him to the Mets several years ago and that probably prevented him from returning to the Braves last year.

I am a Mets fan who will miss seeing Glavine in friendly colors … but salute the man and the ball player for who he is. The Braves may have guaranteed too much money like many of the analysts are saying, but if that 1year deal brings Glavine’s experience to the mound for even less than a season … they’ve reacquainted a Braves legend to the team … that may parlay itself into many more years of coaching or other association with the team. That’s not unwise money at all.

TAKE NO STOCK IN BONDS!

755? … Horrible … I’m with Selig and Aaron from their private stance … and they will do right by baseball in acknowledging Barry’s {{{clearing-throat}}} record … but on their own public terms.

I hate the racial connotations being thrown Bonds way though. Hank Aaron deserves a huge amount of notoriety for the era in which he accomplished his record, but leave the fact that Bonds is black out of it. Meaningless!

I don’t give a crap if he’s black or “CLEAR” … paint it any color you want, he was a very good player who crossed-the-line to land with the Greats!

Crossing that line makes his record nothing to me! TAKE NO STOCK IN BONDS!
